I was working in the paediatric dengue ward day shift and I had seen more than 400 paediatric dengue cases that week.It was very tiring and I had myalgia and fatigue on the first day and I thought it was because of the hectic duty and I ignored that and on the next day I developed high grade fever and headache which was not responding to paracetamol. I had loss of appetite and vomiting later that day.It was at that time I got the fear and I gave blood investigation for complete blood count and NS1 antigen.The reports came next day as NS 1 positive with leukopenia.I had severe symptoms and I got admitted in hospital.As I couldn't take anything orally I was started on Intravenous fluids and my platelets were dropping. Luckily I didn't get any warning signs or bleeding manifestations Blood investigations were done twice daily and after 4 days my platelets improved and I felt clinically better.I was discharged on the same day.i lost around 5 kilograms and I felt weak for the next four weeks.I can surely say that dengue is one of worst infection one can get.After that I always used a mosquito repellent.  Patient Story is shared by Dr.A.S.Vaanmathi M.D, Consultant Paediatrician
